"Miss Alice" was born April 20, 1912, in Bartonsville, Frederick County. She attended the one-room Bartonsville School there, and graduated from Lincoln High School in Frederick. Upon graduation, she attended Howard University in Washington. Throughout her life, Miss Alice committed her life to serving her family, church, community and anyone who came to her with a need. No matter how meager her own larder, she somehow found a way to provide for others. She was a former member of Asbury United Methodist Church, having transferred her membership back to Jackson Chapel United Methodist Church, the church of her rearing, when the family returned to Bartonsville in 1954. She held several positions there while active, including communion steward, trustee, Sunday school teacher, delegate to the annual conference and custodian. In the community, she was a Girl Scout leader, a long-term election judge, a member of Church Women United and a volunteer at Citizen's Nursing Center. One of her fondest joys was her affiliation with Prince Hall Masonry. She was a member of Queen Esther Chapter 2, Order of the Eastern Star, for more than 60 years and served as Worthy Matron. She was a member of Frederick Valley Assembly 270, Order of the Golden Circle, serving as Loyal Lady Ruler. Miss Alice is survived by sons, William Bertron Hill Jr. and wife, Margaret, of Bartonsville, and Davis Vincent Hill Sr. and wife, Edna, of Thomasville, Ga.; daughters, Alice Beverly Ford and husband, John, of Walkersville, and Linda Ann Bryan and husband, Francis, of Bowie. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, William Bertron Hill III, Randolph Davis Hill, Alicyn Francine Hill, Michael Anthony Hill, Jonathan Edmond Townes, Craig Christopher Bryan, Stephanie Lynn Bryan, David Aaron Bryan and Zachary Bennett Bryan; 22 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by brothers, Bernard and John Davis; sisters, Elizabeth Davis, Louise Green, Doris Mitchell, Charlotte Davis and Evelyn Davis; and grandson, Davis Vincent Hill Jr. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, at Gary L. Rollins Funeral Home, 110 W. South St., Frederick. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at Asbury United Methodist Church.
