Ms. Charlotte Davis

Ms. Charlotte Brooks Davis, 79, of Frederick, passed away Dec. 2, 2007 at her residence after losing a brief battle with cancer. She was born April 10, 1928 in Frederick and was the daughter of the late John Edmond Davis and Mamie Louise Bowie-Thomas (Davis), both of Frederick.
She was a graduate of Hampton University. She retired from the Federal Government with 35 faithful years at the National Institution of Health in Bethesda as a Microbiologist. She was an active participant with the Salvation Army Women's auxiliary, member of the New Market Homemakers Club, member of the Greater Women's Republican Committee of Frederick, member of the National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees, member of the ABCL Bridge Association and was a very accomplished player. She was also a recognized pianist with several local church choirs. She was a devoted member of Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church and Asbury United Methodist Church. She was the secretary for the Bartonsville Community Cemetery for approximately 25 years. She enjoyed reading scriptures, sewing, cooking and making others happy, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Charles Brooks Davis Sr. and wife, Pamela; her extended son, Michael Eugene Daye and wife, Barbara; grandchildren, Heather Davis, Salahuddin Gadson, Shantee' Davis, Charles Davis Jr., Ja'Mel Stevenson, of Frederick, Andrenna Ruffin, of High Point, N.C., Troy Williams, of Talcott, W.V.; great-grandchild, Jayla White, of High Point, N.C.; sisters, Clarice Reid of Philadelphia, Doris Mitchell, of Silver Spring and Alice Hill, of Frederick; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, John Davis and Bernard Davis and three sisters, Louise Green, Elizabeth Davis, and Eve]yn Davis.
During her illness, the family would like to send a special thanks to Mrs. Jean Brinkley, from the Greater Women's Republican Committee of Frederick, Ms. Kay Nowstrup, from the Bridge Association, Ms. Willis Jackson, of Quinn A.M.E. Church, Ms. Helen Swanson, from the Salvation Army, and long time friends Ms. Edith Jackson and Ms. Estelle Belt.
Public viewing will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6 at Gary L. Rollins Funeral Home, 110 W South St., Frederick. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7 at Asbury U.M. Church, 98 West All Saints St., Frederick with Rev. Mack officiating. Interment will follow at Bartonsville Cemetery.
