Mrs. Monterey Bowie

Monterey Mae Bowie, 87, of Frederick, passed away Oct. 31, after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late Charles C. Bowie Sr.
Born November 10, 1919 in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late Ruth Booth Fredericks and Charles Booth.
Monterey was a member of St. James AME church where she served in a number of different capacities. She was also a member of Madame CJ Walker Chapter and the Frederick County Homemakers Club. She retired from the Maryland State School for the Deaf and was also employed by the Department of Recreation (Manager, Diggs Pool) City of Frederick.
More recently, she enjoyed watching professional football and the QVC shopping network on TV, playing slot machines and most especially spending quality time with her family and friends.
Monterey leaves to cherish her precious memory: two daughters, Barbara A. Bowens and husband Antonio, Jennifer L. Hall and husband Willis, of Frederick; five sons, Charles C. Bowie, Jr. and Yvonne, of North Potomac, Phillip E. Bowie and wife, Carleen, Donald L. Bowie and wife, Vivian, Michael A. Bowie and wife, Audrey, Stanley B. Bowie and wife, Kim; the three grandchildren she raised, Kevin L. Bowie, Aleta (Needy) Bell, Jeffrey W. Bowie, all of Frederick. She is survived by one brother, Howard (Scoop) Stewart and wife, Barbara Ann of Frederick. She leaves 28 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins as well as her devoted friends Olive Gamer, Margaret Lee Brown, Bonnie Sanders and devoted brother-in-law Gilbert Bowie.
In addition to her husband Charles, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Monterey (Sis) Bowie; two sisters, Peggy Stewart Lee and Lenore Whiting; and one brother, Charles Booth.
Public viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 4, at the Gary L. Rollins Funeral Home, 110 West South St., Frederick.
The family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m., Monday, Nov. 5, prior to the scheduled funeral service at 10 a.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, West All Saints St. and Court St., Frederick. Interment will be at Resthaven Cemetery.

Monterey married Charles M. Bowie, son of Walter Spencer Bowie and Cora Lee Diggs. (Charles M. Bowie was born on 1 Mar 1917, died on 13 Jan 1994 and was buried BARTONSVILLE.)
